Cost Accountant

Location: Jacksonville, FL 32216
Job Description:
The Cost Accountant directs the activities of product manufacturing analysis, product costing and inventory valuation. The position provides recommendations to management in support of the achievement of the company’s goals. Position will be on-site at the Jacksonville Plant.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform month end close activities.
    • Prepare and post journal entries
    • Prepare and analyze account reconciliations
  • Prepare various financial analysis related to manufacturing costs, inventory, and reserve information.
  • Monitor cost standard performance to make sure costs are in line with budget cost parameters and revise if necessary.
  • Maintain and improve processes and controls associated with manufacturing costs and inventory valuation.
  • Provide management with cost estimates for new products and provide the cost impact for changes to existing processes or process locations.
  • Make recommendations for efficiency improvements and cost reductions based on analysis.
  • Work with Controller and Plant Manager to improve financial status by analyzing results monitoring variances and trends.
  • Annually update cost standards on mainframe for product routings, wage and OH rates, material usages and direct labor hours/k by operation and product line.
  • Provide financial cost analysis of performance to standard and recommend actions to eliminate any discrepancies.
  • Correspond with departments to ensure proper accounting for purchases and expenses.
  • Conducts physical inventories and monitors cycle count program.
  • Reconciles finished goods inventories.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance.
  •   5 + years of experience in accounting; cost accounting experience in manufacturing preferred.
  • Computer skills: Strong knowledge of Excel including pivot table creation and Microsoft Office Products.  Prefer experience with Oracle database systems.
  • Analytical skills: strong math and analytical skills.
  • Verbal/communication: able to read and understand technical reports, process specifications, and office correspondence.  Able to write clear and understandable memos and reports.
  • Strong grasp of GAAP accounting and general accounting concepts.
